Earlier this year, Texas College was accepted by the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society, one of the top national honor societies in the country. The College’s acceptance yielded the chartering of the Texas Beta Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi, Chapter 409 in Region II, Texas College’s chapter.

To formally commemorate the chartering, the College hosted the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society Texas Beta Beta Chapter Inaugural Induction Ceremony. The ceremony took place on Tuesday, October 29, in the Martin Hall Auditorium.

With an array of symbolically colored candles positioned in ornate candelabra and the platform robed in academic regalia, the atmosphere undoubtedly exuded academic formality, excellence, significance, and symbolism. The aforementioned was amplified with the procession of candidates for induction, which entailed ritualistic lighting of candles, repeated membership affirmations, and signing of the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society Constitution. President Dwight J. Fennell also received honorary membership into Alpha Chi.

In addition to the induction of the inaugural 23 members, the ceremony congruently served as a platform to formally inaugurate the Texas Beta Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi, as well as install chapter officers. To further emphasize the significance of the occasion, encouraging and congratulatory remarks were received from President Dwight J. Fennell, Dr. Jan Duncan, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Mamta Gupta, Division Chair for Natural and Computational Sciences and Alpha Chi Advisor, as well as Ms. Lara Q. Noah, Executive Director of Alpha Chi National College Honor Society. Ritualistic assistance was also provided by Alpha Chi Co-Advisors Dr. Hamad Ali, Division Chair for Business and Social Sciences, and Mr. Mingle Moore, Instructor of English and Director of the Writing Lab, as well as Mr. Chrispin Chifwepa, Instructor of Business. Musical selections also graced the ceremony from Dr. Jaeyong Lee and Dr. Martin Vasquez, both Assistant Professors of Music.

With the chartering of the Texas Beta Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi, Texas College now maintains two honor societies on campus, the second being The National Society of Leadership and Success, the largest leadership honor society in the United States. These offerings undoubtedly elevate and enhance the academic atmosphere and experience at Texas College.

The Sigificance of Alpha Chi on Campus

Texas College is excited and eager to offer this opportunity to students. The Texas Beta Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi affords scholars an enhanced landscape on campus to thrive and collaborate. The College’s Alpha Chi chapter further fuels and invigorates a robust intellectual life both inside and outside of the classroom, providing students opportunities to engage with a community of peers on campus and across the country, as well as leadership and service opportunities to build students’ résumés.

The Alpha Chi National College Honor Society recognizes exceptional student scholars and unites them around one goal—channeling creativity and curiosity into scholarship that serves the greater good. Alpha Chi's mission, in part, is to broaden members' collegiate experience by:

  • Encouraging student creativity and research;
  • Fostering excellence and service in action;
  • Promoting personal growth through diversity;
  • Equipping compassionate listeners and leaders
  • Providing a path for academic and professional mentoring; and
  • Exemplifying how to make scholarship effective for good.

Alpha Chi also offers students a rich source for scholarships and financial awards, with many grants, scholarships, fellowships, awards, and travel stipends to support undergraduate scholarship.
