Texas College Steer Football capped off a historic 8-3 season with a hard-fought dominant victory against Nelson University this past Saturday, marking the program's best official season since the program was revived in 2003. The Steers defended their home turf with a perfect 6-0 record at Trinity Mother Frances Rose & Clyde-Perkins Stadiums, showcasing a resurgence in the program's fortunes under Head Coach Jarrail Jackson.
The Steers' 28-7 triumph over Nelson University was a fitting finale to a campaign marked by determination, resilience, and standout performances. "This is a special moment for Texas College," said Coach Jarrail Jackson after the game. "Our players worked incredibly hard this season, and going undefeated at home shows the pride they have in representing this school and this community. To finish 8-3—it's something we'll cherish and build on for the future."

The Steers' success was fueled by standout contributions across the roster. Terrell Hookfin, Jr. was recently selected for the 2025 Allstate HBCU Legacy Bowl, and the NFL draftee hopeful delivered big plays throughout the year. The team has had back-to-back defensive players of the year.

This year's performance represents a dramatic turnaround for the program, which has struggled for consistency in recent years. The undefeated home record galvanized the Steers' fanbase, bringing energy and excitement back to Texas College Football. Alumni and supporters celebrated this year's team as a symbol of progress and potential.
"This season is bigger than just one season," said Offensive Coordinator Andrew Bates "It's a step toward catapulting Texas College Football to prominence in our conference. The hard work by the players, coaches, and staff have set the foundation for something special."
As the team heads into the offseason, the focus shifts to building on this success. With a solid core of players returning and new recruits eager to join the program, the future looks bright for the Steers. For now, though, the 2024 Texas College Football Team can savor a season for the ages—one that rekindled school spirit and etched its place in the record books.
Texas College Steer Football Brief History
Texas College Steer Football can be traced back to at least 1918, over a century ago. In 1920, as one of the original "Super Six," Texas College was one of six institutions to found an athletic league that has slowly became one of the leading sports associations in the world of collegiate athletics, the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). The Steers have collected five SWAC Football Championships (1934, 1935, 1936, 1942, and 1944) and Texas College won a National Championship in 1935. Steer Football was discontinued in the 1960s.

However, the Texas College Footballl program would be revived in 2003. Although classified as an independent club-level team, the Steers amassed a 7-3 record against official intercollegiate varsity programs, including a notable victory over NCAA Division I Prairie View A&M University. Texas College would officially enter back into the realm of varsity intercollegiate athletics in 2004 when they joined the NAIA Division I Central States Football League (CSFL). As a member of the CSFL, the Steers secured two CSFL Conference Championshionships (2005 and 2006). In 2018, Texas College left the CSFL to join the Sooner Athletic Conference, where they now compete today.
